SPEAK OUT

What's up homies!?
At last week's meeting Mark Kelly (vice president of Student Affairs) attended our meeting to discuss with us some proposals for improving Latino student affairs here at Columbia. This week at Latino Alliance, we are going to be giving the chance to those who wish to address specific issues by conducting a SWOT analysis (strength, weaknesses, opporitunites, threats) at this upcoming meeting.

Please take this opporitunity to let your voice be heard! Spread the word about the Speak out, and bring a homie if you can. All are welcome to the meeting, it would be nice to have those with a non-latino background to attend so that they could get a perspective into the latino student here at columbia. Hope to see you all at the next meeting. Same time. Same place. ;)

THE 2005-2006 LATINO ALLIANCE E-B0ARD

This year the election process was hilarious.
We had a couple of last minute nominees and that rocks!

Everyone did their mini speeches and the Presidential Candidates were asked one or two questions about where they want to take Latino Alliance. Interestingly enough Carlos Acevedo--one of the candidates--was stuck in traffic, so his friend Celi Munoz called him during the elections...Carlos was able to give his speech via Celi's cell phone speaker, and one of our members even popped one question to him.

It's very important for us to have the first 6 positions filled in order for Latino Alliance to receive funding and be a Columbia College recognized student org.

So far there is 2 people running for President, 2 people running for Vice President, and 1 person running for treasurer.

If you are interested in becoming part of Latino Alliance's E-board please nominate your self replying to this email with your name, GPA, the position you are interested in, and a short Bio, so Latino Alliance members can get to know you ASAP.

Remember you can nominate yourself or someone else, you believe would make a good candidate for a specific position (if you nominate another person please send his/her contact info so we can get in touch with this candidate to see if the person is interested in the position)

In order to be considered for a Latino Alliance E-board position you must:

*Be a Columbia College Full-Time student for the 2005-2006 academic year (or at least the Fall Semester)

*Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

*Been an active Latino Alliance Member during the 2004-2005 academic year.

If you are graduating this semester remember, you WILL BE ABLE TO NOMINATE E-BOARD CANDITATES, however, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VOTE since you won't be enrolled @ Columbia next year.

CANDIDATES GET READY:

This Wednesday you are expected to be at the Latino Alliance meeting ON TIME, and ready to present a SHORT SPEECH (no more than 5 minutes) where you could explain why are you interested in becoming a Latino Alliance E-board, what qualities and/or leadership roles make you suitable for the position, and what will you bring to the organization.

**EVERYONE: It's imperative for you to attend this meeting to elect your the new Latino Alliance Excutive Board.
